Arizona
Maternity Insurance Comparison
By Matthew Irons
Quick Comparison of Good Maternity
Plans in Arizona
As
an independent insurance broker
focusing on Arizona
health insurance it is my job to listen to my clients and understand
their situation and find the best plan for them. What I have found is
that everyone's situation is different and not one single plan is best
for everyone.
When
searching for a maternity plan I
cross reference 3 variables:
1).
Waiting Period: This is how long a
person must wait before they can experience this benefit.
2).
Amount of Coverage
3).
Affordability.
I
have found three plans that have the
best ranges for the given parameters above.
--American
Community: Community Flex
This is by far the most affordable maternity plan on the market.
Usually maternity coverage is an optional benefit, but with the
Community Flex plan it is a standard benefit. Also, the waiting period
is only 3 months as opposed to the usual 12 to 15 month waiting period.
What American Community has done is provide the maternity coverage with
a separate maternity deductible. Eventhough the deductible is quite
large, what the customer experiences is the PPO wholesale repricing.
This wholesale pricing saves the customer a significant amount of money.
--Assurant:
Coremed Elite
The Assurant plan is also very good as well. It too only has a 3 month
waiting period. This plan also uses the same concept of a separate
maternity deductible, however, the deductible can be very low. The
thing to keep in mind with this plan is that it is the most expensive
out of the three options.
--GoldenRule
(UnitedHealthOne): Copay Select
This plan is great if you do not want any sort of waiting period. Once
you sign up for the plan and you select the optional maternity rider
you experience the maternity benefits from day 1. This plan would be
the next most affordable plan on the market. The only downfall with
this plan is that it is technically not maternity "insurance". What
GoldenRule has done is provide an amount of money that is used for
maternity charges. As you stay on the plan longer the more money you
are allocated. In addition, you may not experience the PPO repricement
(you are only able to experience this benefit if the hospital or doctor
allow you to participate).
Hopefully
after reading my commentary on maternity plans this will help guide you
on your quest for a plan that fits your needs and situation. If you
